Our Values

A core value is something that is non-negotiable, an unchanging commitment that clarifies and determines key decisions.

What We Believe at Trinity

  • Affirming Faith

We affirm our belief in God as revealed through Jesus Christ and we appreciate variety in the expression of that affirmation.

  • Respecting Diversity in Theology

Differences in belief occur. When rooted in the essentials of the Christian faith (best summed up in the Apostle's Creed), such differences enhance our understanding of God and challenge us to grow in faith. Unity in the essentials, liberty in the non-essentials, and charity in all.

  • Caring For The Whole Person

We concern ourselves with the spiritual, physical, and social conditions of all.

  • Relying On Grace

God's grace enables our faith (Prevenient Grace). God's grace forgives our sin and renews us (Salvation/Justifying Grace). God's grace continues to nurture and draw us to become more like Christ.

  • Relying On The Holy Spirit

Finding a new life in Christ, whether sudden or gradual, occurs under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

  • Blessed Assurance

We believe God makes his love, forgiveness, and salvation known to us through an inner experience of the Holy Spirit. John Wesley wrote, "By testimony of the Holy Spirit, I mean an inward impression of the soul, whereby the Spirit of God directly and immediately witnesses to my spirit, that I am a child of God, that Jesus loves me and gave himself for me, that all my sins are blotted out and that I, even I, am reconciled to God".

  • Love

Love is a central characteristic of God. Love is the center of our community at Trinity Church. We accept everyone that walks into our community, as God does us. This does not mean that we affirm everything they do, as God does not affirm everything we do. But we believe God welcomes all at the Cross of Jesus Christ and calls all to a journey of transformation.

  • Action

We believe we express our faith in Jesus Christ through outward works of love. Our faith compels us to love, care, and witness. We seek social action for human liberation, reconciliation, justice, and peace.

  • God Speaks Truth To All Christians

We believe that God can speak to a layperson as deeply and strongly as He can clergy. God calls us to join the journey and struggle of understanding; to live out our faith. We do this using four sources:

  • Scripture

Inspired by the Holy Spirit when it was written and when it is read is our ultimate guide for life and living.

  • Tradition

The ever-renewed community of faith informs us of their understandings.

  • Reason

Our own capacity to analyze, compare, and come to sound judgments.

  • Experience

Our own experience of God's healing love, the gift of new life in Christ, inform us.

These four sources guide us when we make decisions in our lives, community, church, and world.

  • Science

We value the intellect and modern science. At the same time we look to the Bible as the authoritative guide for faith and practice. For example, we believe in wholistic healing. God uses the intellect of medical practitioners, the breakthroughs of today's technology, and the power of prayer to bring healing to a person. Faith, hope, love, and family are of immense value to the healing process.

  • It's Not All Black And White

Our faith is passionate. Our convictions are strong. Still, we recognize that the world is not always black and white. We ask questions, and wrestle with difficult issues. We do so with grace and compassion.

  • All Are Welcome!

The Communion table of every United Methodist congregation is open. All are welcome to receive the bread and juice. Those that participate in communion do not have to be members of Trinity Church, nor do they have to be baptized. This does not mean the invitation to Holy Communion is casual. While the table is open to all regardless of age, church affiliation, and mental or physical ability, acceptance of the invitation demands honest self-examination.

Persons invited are those "that do truly and earnestly repent of your sins, and are in love and charity with your neighbors, and intend to lead a new life, following the commandments of God, and walking henceforth in his holy ways..."

  • Three Simple Rules

The United Methodist (Wesleyan) way of living can be condensed to three simple rules:

    1. Do No Harm
    2. Do Good
    3. Stay In Love With God
