Field Notes
Even the greatest swimmers cannot swim forever stranded in the Pacific Ocean without help. They need someone to save them. They need a savior.

If you are ever drowning in water and someone comes to save you, please remember this: Do not grab the lifeguard. If you do, you both drown. To be saved, you have to surrender the struggle and allow the lifeguard to position you so he can pull you to safety.

When I feel life is drowning me, I wish God would just zap me, zap others, and fix the situation. I want God to save me. Well, Psalm 145 says that God is gracious, full of love and mercy, and is ready to save us (V 14).

The key: 1. We might need to surrender our fight, stop telling God how to save us, and allow God to provide the solutions. 2. Maybe God is saving us and we just do not see it yet.

Psalm 145’s reminder is simple: God is our friend who wants to save us. God is God of the future. Thus, the future is our friend. Maybe it’s time surrender all struggles to God so God can save us.
