Ukraine Relief

We grieve the loss of life and events unfolding across Ukraine. As we continue to follow the news of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, we lift up our prayers for the people there. We pray for their leaders and citizens. We also pray for our leaders and allies who seek to restore peace and order in this crisis. Above all, we appeal to God for wisdom and courage as we face these challenging days.

We have identified two organizations to support who are on the ground responding to the crisis in Ukraine and donated $20,000 to World Central Kitchen, an organization currently at the Poland/Ukraine border providing hot meals to refugees arriving by train. We are also donating $20,000 to International Rescue Committee, an organization providing emergency supplies like sleeping bags and other relief items to children and families fleeing the war.

Currently, the State Department does not yet have a plan in place to resettle refugees. If you're interested in learning more about how you can support refugees from Ukraine, UMC Global Ministries and Nashville International Center for Empowerment have information regarding ways to respond, volunteering opportunities, and more.

We are continuing to monitor the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and will be responding to future needs as they emerge. Thank you for your generous contributions to our disaster relief fund to help support those suffering in Ukraine.

BUMC's disaster response strategy includes three areas in which to minister:
  1. PRAY – Pray for the people of Ukraine as they seek safety in the midst of this invasion
  2. GIVE – Donate as you are able to the BUMC Disaster Relief Fund, which will go directly to relief efforts
  3. SERVE – We will keep you updated as service opportunities become available

Disasters can happen at any time, and when they do, BUMC is prepared to help in any way we can. Our Disaster Relief Ministry is recruiting volunteers for our leadership team to guide the vision of this ministry and our response strategy as well as volunteers interested in receiving Early Response Training to be able to provide on-the-ground relief with UMCOR after a disaster.
