Your Face – The Face of an Angel

November 21, 2017

DAILY READING

Acts 6:8-15

This weekend’s reading: Matthew 25:31-46

FIELD NOTES
Have you ever been in the presence of someone and felt as if you were in the presence of Christ? In today’s scripture, even though the Jews were ready to condemn and stone Stephen, they had to admit that “…they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.”

In Romans 8:29, Paul tells us that those whom God foreknew (which is everyone), God predestined (meaning that God had a plan and that plan is…) to grow into the image of Christ. That is God’s plan for all of us . . . that we become like Christ.

There is an apocryphal story about a man, who was so much like Jesus while on earth. When he died and appeared before Jesus, all the angels of heaven gathered around Jesus and marveled at what they saw. This man looked exactly like Jesus.

With all of us being Christ to each other, Christ to our families, Christ to our community and world, it is very possible to envision Christ permeating every part of our lives individually, so that others will see Christ through us individually and through Brentwood UMC.

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  • Which person in your life leaves you with the impression that you’ve been in the presence of Christ?
  • In what way might you be Christ to the people with whom you come in contact today?

PRAYER GUIDE
Most loving, gracious God, please live in and through each of us today such that others will experience you today. In your gracious name, I pray. Amen.
