Psalm 86:11-17

This weekend’s reading: Daniel 3:13-30

FIELD NOTES

The word “steadfast” is one of my favorite words of the English language. I think this is because it is one of the most comforting, descriptive words that we have for the character of God. Synonyms for steadfast included faithful, loyal, dependable, dedicated, steady, true, solid, constant, trustworthy. Of course, God is so much more than all of these things, but it is these attributes that are the most comforting to me in times of sadness or despair. The words of worship leader and singer/songwriter Sandra McKracken speak to the steadfastness of God:

In the moment of emptiness
All was fulfilled
In the hour of darkness
Your light was revealed
In the presence of death
Your life was affirmed
In the absence of holiness,
You are still God.

You are steadfast.

When we face the struggles of life, God embodies this word, steadfast. This alone becomes our hope and consolation.
