FIELD NOTES
In C.S. Lewis’s famous children’s novel, “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,” the four Pevensie children are told that one day the fabled land of Narnia will be ruled over by four benevolent, human kings. It turns out that the children will become those kings. How? They only become good kings when they fully give themselves over the king over all kings in Narnia, Aslan.

Lewis is creating an allegory for our relationship with Christ. By becoming servants of the good lion king, Aslan, the children become kings themselves. When we bow down to serve the greatest king of all—the King of Kings, Jesus Christ—we are also conferred a kingdom. It’s not like the kingdoms of this world, however. Instead, this is a kingdom of mercy and justice and love. Praise God that we have been made righteous! We can be like kings!
