Be Prepared

July 3, 2018

DAILY READING

2 Corinthians 9:1-5
This weekend’s reading: Colossians 2:6-15

FIELD NOTES

If Davis called with a job that only you could do, would you be prepared to do it?  Are you ready to serve others at any time?

On the rare occasion that my wife and child are both out of the house, and I find myself home alone, there is one thing I love doing more than anything else—making popcorn and settling into the couch for a movie.  Be it Jurassic Park or Unforgiven, I love a great movie and the uninterrupted space to enjoy it.  So when I am sitting there, and the Tyrannosaurus is about to attack the kids for the first time in Jurassic Park, and I get a call that something needs to be done in order to help share God’s love with someone, what is my typical response?  If I am being honest, my first response is to ignore the call.  My second is that of annoyance.  This is my day off after all.

But we are to be prepared to serve at all times—for Christ.  For the love of Christ to spread, for we are Christ’s hands and feet.

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  • How often do I boast of my own works, without even realizing it?
  • What am I being called to do for Christ?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  • What are some real ways in which we can show Christ’s love as a family this week?

PRAYER

Lord, help me not to be full of empty spectacle, but to have real faith behind my words and deeds.  Help me live in a way that allows you to become greater, and myself to become less.  In your name Jesus, Amen.
