FIELD NOTES
The writer here implores us to put to death our sinful desires. Our earthly nature, as he puts it, consists of our greed, lust, envy, anger, malice, etc. We are instead, to be Holy. How often do you find your natural reaction to something to be undesirable?
So how do we pursue holiness? Remember who created you. We are created in the image of God, and Christ, being God, is in us, and through us, and all around us. We put our earthly nature to death by remembering our true nature; that we are created by the God who loved us so much, He came and lived among us, and died for our sins, and rose again.
We can pursue holiness, because we are created in God’s image, filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit works through us to convict and refine. The question is, are we allowing it to do its work in us?
QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD
- In what ways am I inviting the Holy Spirit to work in my life?
- What gets in the way of my pursuit of holiness?
FAMILY FIELD TALK
- What are the fruits of the Spirit, and which ones do you have?
PRAYER
Holy Spirit, help us to see you working in our lives, and help us seek your help in loving more deeply and following the teachings of Christ more closely. Amen.
