Praying with Intention

October 12, 2018

DAILY READING

Luke 18:35-43
This weekend’s reading: Genesis 37:1-11

FIELD NOTES

When reading today’s passage, does anything stand out to you?  I’ll tell you what stands out to me.  We have a blind man, begging Jesus to heal him.  He cries out for Jesus to have mercy on him.  He is rebuked by Jesus’ followers, and yet he persists.  “Have mercy on me, Son of David!” he shouts.

Jesus takes notice.  He has the man brought to him.  “What do you want?” he asks.

“Lord, I want to see.” Says the blind man.

And Jesus heals him.

So what stands out to me here?  The man asks a specific request of Jesus.

How often are our prayers vague?  How often do we throw prayers out as if they didn’t really matter?

Not that God will say YES to every specific request we bring, but I think this passage teaches us to be intentional in our prayers.  Make them count.  Mean them.

PRAYER
