The Truth Will Make You Free
March 28, 2019
DAILY READING
John 8:21-32
This weekend’s reading: Mark 15:33-41
FIELD NOTES
This passage concludes with Jesus speaking words that are likely quite familiar to you. Speaking to the Jews who had believed in him, he said:
“If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.
This is good news. This is really really good news.
Jesus himself. Emmanuel. God With Us. The Christ. The Messiah. The Holy One. Jesus is the truth that sets us free.
The truth we know in the incarnation, life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ set us free from the consequences of sin, from the fear of the permanence of our current circumstances, from anxiety about the future.
Not freedom from all pain or sadness. Not freedom to simply do whatever we want. But freedom to follow God, serve Jesus, know the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus exposes the hope for eternal life.
Jesus, the incarnation of God’s Truth, sets us free.

PRAYER GUIDE
Oh God With Us, help us to continue in your word, continue on your path, continue in your love, continue in your mission, continue in your hope, continue in your peace, continue in your joy. Help us to continue so that we will come to know the comfort and assurance of your truth that sets us free to love more completely. Amen.
