Fears of Sharing My Faith

October 19, 2019

DAILY READINGS

Luke 10:1-2
This weekend’s scripture: Luke 10:1-12

FIELD NOTES

Fear freezes our dreams, hopes, and aspirations.  It immobilizes our efforts.

Even though a pastor, I still feared someone might reject me if I shared my faith. I did not want to be like button-hole Christian fanatics and preachers.  I did not want to be like in-your-face religious groups who knock on your door, trying to convert you without knowing anything about you.

I had no problem sharing my joy about my sports teams, food I ate, the movies I saw, and other things I did.  Why was it so hard to share my faith?

Eventually, I learned to overcome my fear by sharing acts of God’s kindness.  Then I added, “May God continue to bless you.”

In other situations such as standing in a checkout line, I may say, “Look at this blessing I received from God.”

If someone asks why I do a good deed for them, I say, “It’s a simple way of showing God’s love.”

While Jesus sent his disciples on a simple mission recorded in Luke 10, Jesus sends us to everyone daily to make disciples.  We share our faith.  God does the converting.  Paul put it this way.  “I planted. Apollos watered. But God gave the increase.” (1 Corinthians 3:6
