DAILY READINGS
This weekend’s reading:Ecclesiastes 3:18
FIELD NOTES
This psalm is full of praise to God. This is a psalm filled with “WOW!” Entire generations will be filled with awe at God’s mighty acts. They will marvel at God’s splendor and majesty, thinking about all the good things God has done. They will tell the stories of the awesome things God has revealed and done. They will celebrate God’s goodness and righteousness. They will share God’s compassion and patience and faithful love.
I am so thankful for the generations of disciples who walked before me and lived a life of praise. I am thankful for the people who have walked beside me, held my hand, and pointed to the amazing ways God is at work in my life and in the world. These people have been parents, grandparents, Sunday school teachers, school teachers, co-workers, and friends. I don’t know who I would be if it hadn’t been for the people ahead of me who loved God so much that they simply had to share God’s love with me.
Whoever you are, you are the current generation called to do all these things! We are those people David spoke of who would one day thank God for all God’s goodness and would share it with the world through words and actions. We have a great God to thank and to celebrate! And we have a responsibility – a calling – to share God’s beauty and love with others.
QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD
- Who is someone who has taken the time to share faith with you – to love you and teach you and guide you?
- Who is someone younger than you (or newer to faith than you) that you can share God’s amazing love with?
- What is something about God that compels you to follow as a disciple?
FAMILY FIELD TALK
- What is something in the world or your life that makes you go “wow!”?
PRAYER GUIDE
God, I’m here to celebrate you today! I am truly amazed by the beauty of our world, by the remarkable people in it, and by the ways you are so clearly moving among us. I stand in awe of you and I am deeply grateful that you never stop revealing your love and goodness to us. Help me and my generation to shout joyfully about your compassion and love. Make me bold for you. Amen.
