Willing Servant

DAILY READING

1 Peter 5:1-5

FIELD NOTES

One of the best generators of joy is a willing submission to the needs of others over our own.  Doing something for the needs of others without any desire for payback in anyway frees us from the need and societal norms that come with helping others.  We don’t have to worry we are doing too much for the person, or that they won’t be able to help us in return.  We don’t have to worry about fairness.  We are just helping them to help them, and the joy it can bring out of our hearts is truly life changing.

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  • During this time of social distancing, what are some ways we can practice willful submission to those who might need it most?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  • Everyone in the family make it a goal this week to do something kind for someone else in the house without any desire for them to do something nice for you.

PRAYER GUIDE

Lord, may we always give with no desire to receive anything in return.  Amen.

FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT CHALLENGE

For the duration of our sermon series, we are offering daily prompts for applying the wisdom from the scriptures to our everyday lives. Each week focuses on how we can encourage those around us and bear fruit! This week we are focusing on the fruit of joy.

“Most of all, friends, always rejoice in the Lord! I never tire of saying it: Rejoice! Keep your gentle nature so that all people will know what it looks like to walk in His footsteps. The Lord is ever present with us.”
Philippians 4:4-5

We are all experiencing an unprecedented time. Who do you know that has rejoiced in the Lord in the midst of all of this? Take a quick moment today to thank them for the joy they have exhibited!
