DAILY READING

Romans 8:38-39

FIELD NOTES

How does the fruit of the Holy Spirit grow within me? There are days when I am ‘walking in his footsteps’ and days when I am in the desert without being able to see any footsteps to follow.  He is still there.

‘A hundred years ago’ my husband and I went to Sam’s Place at the Ryman on Sunday evenings to enjoy contemporary and traditional Christian music.  I could fill a page with familiar singers’ names who got their starts on that stage.

I especially remember Fernando Ortega’s music…he often brought tears to my eyes…pain and hope and joy.  Here is “No One Else” by Fernando Ortega. Listen for words and phrases that speak of faithful relationship between creator and created.  Claim some of these words as your own. Listen to the song here.

“No One Else” by Fernando Ortega

I look for You in the middle of the night
Savior and guardian of my soul
From highest heaven You hear my call
And in my trouble You comfort and hold me

I long for You when I cannot hear Your voice
And my heart is dry as the dust
Oh Lord, be near me if I should fall
And show me how to believe and to trust You alone

There is no one else beside You
In the darkest night, in the wilderness
There is no one else beside You
At Your feet I cry, in Your arms I rest

I hope in You and Your promise to return
With angels and dark clouds of thunder
When death and evil, and sorrow flee away
And all creation will bow and proclaim You alone

There is no one else beside You
You will fill the sky when You come again
There is no one else beside You
Heaven’s only light burning without end.

There is no one else beside You
In the darkest night, in the wilderness
There is no one else beside You
At Your feet I cry, in Your arms I rest

There is no one else beside You
You will fill the sky when You come again
There is no one else beside You
Heaven’s only light burning without end

No one, no one, no one beside You
No one, no one, no one beside You
No one, no one, no one beside You
No one, no one, no one beside You
No one, no one, no one beside You

FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT CHALLENGE

For the duration of our sermon series, we are offering daily prompts for applying the wisdom from the scriptures to our everyday lives. Each week focuses on how we can encourage those around us and bear fruit! This week we are focusing on the fruit of faithfulness.

“May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.”
– St. Teresa of Avila

Take a moment to reflect on the gifts that you have received from God. How are they a testament to his faithfulness? Who may need to be reminded of God’s faithfulness right now? Pay attention to who God is putting on your heart.
