Speaking Up

August 31, 2020

DAILY READING

Exodus 4:11-12

“Then the Lord said to him, ‘Who gives speech to mortals? Who makes them mute or deaf, seeing or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you are to speak.’”

FIELD NOTES

God knew that Moses was not an eloquent speaker and knew he would be afraid. Yet, God still used Moses. Earlier in the chapter, God shows Moses different miracles that he would perform through Moses to show the Pharaoh that God sent him. However, God still kept Moses’ voice the same. God still wants to use us for his glory even if we are “slow of speech and tongue” or afraid or shy. A study Bible said, “our disabilities, however great or insignificant, can become a showcase for God’s abilities.”

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  • What is something that God has used in your life that was unexpected?
  • What is something that you need to trust to God?

PRAYER GUIDE

God, you are the one who gives us speech, who makes us mute or deaf, seeing or blind. Let everything we say and do be glorifying to you. Thank you that you still love us despite our flaws. Amen.
