Autopilot

DAILY READING

Psalm 119:33-37

“Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes, and I will observe it to the end. Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart. Lead me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it. Turn my heart to your decrees, and not to selfish gain. Turn my eyes from looking at vanities; give me life in your ways.”

FIELD NOTES

I do not excel at directions when it comes to driving. There was a time recently when I was driving home from my college and I went the completely wrong way. I drove this way for a good 15 minutes before I realized I was going the wrong way. I went the wrong way because when I am at school, I take this road all the time and my mind went on autopilot thinking I was staying at school. If we are not careful, our walk with Christ can take an autopilot direction and send us the wrong way. If we are not observing it with our whole heart and delighting in the commandments of God, we can get off the path. God wants to give us life, we must focus on him.

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  • Is there a time where you have gone on “autopilot” with your life?
  • How did you get back on track?

PRAYER GUIDE

God, help us to focus on you with our whole hearts. Thank you that you give us life. Amen.
