When most people think about the world’s great leaders, they imagine figures that can command people’s attention, that demand respect from others, that are brilliant orators, or that can bend other people’s will to their own, even if it means being ruthless.
But this is never the vision of leadership that the Gospel gives us. In the upside down leadership lessons of the Gospel, we learn that grace is more valuable than power. We learn that authority only comes with humility. We learn that we lead best when we fully submit to others and to Christ.
The Gospel always subverts what we thought we knew about the world. Let us learn to lead as Christ leads us.
