Give Thanks

DAILY READING

Psalm 107:1-3

Today is my birthday. And I don’t remember the day I was born, but I have heard it was a very joyful day.  When I celebrate my birthday, I give thanks to the Lord. At the beginning of Psalm 107, it says, “Give thanks to the Lord because He is good.”

I am thankful to God for food, water, and a home. I am also thankful for creation and nature including the flowers, the green grass, and the tall trees. I am also blessed to have family and friends. And we all know that we sometimes need that one furry friend at home, and I am grateful for my dog Mercy.

On my birthday and every day, I always thank the Lord for my life that He gave me. I like getting presents especially when someone gives me something I like. But sometimes on my birthday I get gift cards which I also like. But if I just leave them lying around in a drawer, they’re not worth anything. But if I take it to the store and redeem it, I can get something that I want. Sometimes redeem means to let go of something to get something better.

I learned that redeemed means to make up for or compensate for the faults or bad aspects of something or someone. I also learned that for Christians redemption means deliverance from sin. In Psalm 107 it talks about the Lord redeeming His people “from the power of their enemies.”

We need to be thankful for our lives and God’s redeeming love!

So today let’s “Give thanks to the Lord because He is good, and because His faithful love lasts forever!”
