A Gift from God

March 18, 2021

By Doug Anderson

Back when I was about 13, we rode dirt bikes in an old gravel pit. The rule was “don’t come home until you scare yourself” and we took it seriously. By the time I was 16, we were riding Harleys hard and fast until I broadsided a car at 60 mph and went flying 40 feet over a retaining wall. I landed on someone’s lawn and slid face down across the steps on their sidewalk – ALL WITHOUT A HELMET!  The bike ended up against the wall and Charlie, who was riding with me, was laying on his back on the city sidewalk with his glasses still on his face!

I ended up with a broken toe and some ‘road rash’ and Charlie was okay, so we both walked away. The more I thought of it over the following days, the more I realized that it was a miracle that we both survived, and I concluded that it was a gift from God. With that in mind, I decided that he did have a plan for me – and that was the beginning of my walk in faith that has led me here today.
