Try It, You’ll Like It

DAILY READING

Psalm 34:1-8

FIELD NOTES

When my children were small, we had a rule at our dinner table — you didn’t have to eat everything on your plate, but you had to at least try a bite before you announced, “I don’t like this!!” As parents, we knew something our kids didn’t — sometimes you might like something new and strange but you never know until you try.

In our reading today, the Psalmist invites the reader to do the same thing, “O taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8). Until we have experienced a relationship with God for ourselves, we can’t know how good he is!

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  • Have you “tasted” for yourself the goodness of trusting God and living close to him?
  • Who in your circle of influence needs this invitation to “taste” for themselves the goodness of God?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  • Are there foods that your parents have urged you to eat that you have refused because you’re afraid you won’t like them? Give them a try next time and see what you think. You may be surprised!

PRAYER GUIDE

Gracious God, thank you for offering your goodness to us. Help us to offer your goodness to those around us. Amen.
