Praise the Lord!

DAILY READING

Psalm 113

FIELD NOTES

Have you ever wondered why the Psalms say over and over we should praise God? In today’s psalm, the word praise occurs 5 times in 9 verses. What is it about praising God that’s so important?

For one reason, God deserves it. He is the Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer of all creation – something no other being can lay claim to. He alone is worthy of our praise.

But another important reason is that praise helps bring us closer to God. When we praise God, we experience anew God’s glory, majesty, love and grace. Just like telling a friend about someone we love makes us even more aware of their delightful qualities, so too praising God reminds us how good God is to us. Praise is good for us!

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  • Do you find it easy or hard to praise God?
  • How can you incorporate praise into your daily life?
  • How does praising God affect your relationship to God?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  • Go for a walk outside with your parents or other trusted adult. Notice things that are beautiful or that make you smile. Tell God how much you like what he has made and thank him for bringing these things into your life.

PRAYER GUIDE

Dear Heavenly Parent, life itself is not long enough to praise you for your goodness, love, and grace. Help us to learn to praise you exuberantly. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
