Micah 4:1-5

FIELD NOTES

This week marks the start of Advent, the season of anticipation and preparation for the birth of Christ.  During this season, we remember the longing of Jews for a Messiah and our own longing for, and need of, forgiveness, salvation and a new beginning.  We also anticipate the full reign of the Kingdom of God that comes in the death and Resurrection of Christ and will ultimately come one day.  The Micah passage today anticipates this Kingdom come.  Micah hopes for a time when all people “shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more; but they shall all sit under their own vines and under their own fig trees, and no one shall make them afraid; for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken.”  Hallelujah to the Prince of Peace! Hallelujah to the One who casts out all fears!
