God-Incidences

June 7, 2022

DAILY READING

Psalm 81
Genesis 29:1-14

FIELD NOTES

Just as Abraham sent his servant to find a wife for Isaac among his kinspeople in Haran, so Isaac sent his son Jacob to Haran to find a wife. One of the first people Jacob met when he arrived was Rachel – his cousin and the woman he would fall in love with and later marry. Even though Jacob didn’t have any reason to believe that he would so quickly find a wife in Haran, it happened. Was it coincidence or God’s providence?

You may have experienced something similar in your own life. You make a seemingly random connection with someone who later becomes very important in your life. Do you think God arranges things like that or do you think it’s coincidence?

Our Psalm for the day, Psalm 81, says in verse 10: “Open your mouth wide and I will fill it with good things” (The New Living Translation). God sees the big picture of your life and knows how to connect the dots to draw a lovely design. Today, keep your eyes and ears open for the little “coincidences” that just might be “God-incidences.”

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  1. Have you ever had an experience in your life where a seeming coincidence turned out to be God’s providence?
  2. What could you do today to help you recognize God’s involvement in your life?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

Ask the grownups in your house to tell of a time that God helped them or provided for them in a very specific way. As you go through your day, look for signs that God is providing what you need. Be sure to say “thanks”!

PRAYER GUIDE

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for providing for us and meeting our needs. Help us to trust you with our lives and be open and grateful for your provision. Amen.
