Exodus 35:1-29

FIELD NOTES
After 400 years of slavery in Egypt, the Israelites are being led into freedom and a new kind of living. 
 
God has provided food, guidance, and a leader (Moses) for the journey.  God has met them at the Mountain and provided a code of ethics.  But now wants to live with them, in their midst, as they walk in the wilderness. God has modeled for them what it looks like to provide and now God is asking them to follow God’s example and to provide for the tabernacle. 
 
So Moses shares what is needed and casts a vision for God’s dwelling. And the people respond, not out of duty or guilt or fear, but out of joy.  “And they came, every one whose heart was stirred, and everyone whose spirit was willing, and brought the LORD’s offering…”
