Nothing Can Separate Us from the Love of Christ
DAILY READING
FIELD NOTES
When I was in high school, one of my absolute most favorite verses was found in Romans 8. “Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? No… For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” I guess many high schoolers, certainly myself, wanted to feel loved in the midst of an important formational time. This verse was so comforting knowing that no matter what I did or didn’t do, nothing could separate me from the love of Christ. When I read these verses today, I was reminded of the immense comfort that I felt in these verses in high school. They would often melt away the stress and anxiety that I felt. I realized that I needed their comfort even today, far away from high school to know that there is nothing that I can do or not do that will separate me from the love of Christ. I may be far from perfect, but Christ’s grace overcomes all shortcomings.
