DAILY READINGS
John 5:19-29
This weekend’s scripture: Luke 18:15-17
FIELD NOTES
I have a confession. I once was a legalistic, judgmental, hateful Christian. I looked at the sins of others and counted them as “less than” myself. They were beneath God, and beneath me. I had zero compassion for those who called themselves Christians and continued living into their sinful lives.
You would have hated me.
Here’s the thing—I hated myself. I was just as sinful as everyone else, but I fooled myself into thinking because I wasn’t drinking, or sleeping around, or whatever other “big sin” you want to insert, I was ok. But I knew the truth, deep down.
Jesus relied on the Holy Spirit. So I must rely on the Holy Spirit. As you must. For on our own, we can do nothing.
QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD
- Who do you let into the truth of who you really are? Your spouse? Your children? God?
PRAYER GUIDE
Lord, you know us, before we even truly know ourselves. Help us rely upon the Holy Spirit to live into our authentic selves, rather than our own projection of what we think is righteous.
