Love in Unexpected Places

DAILY READING
FIELD NOTES
I was talking to a friend recently about encountering the majesty of God in the outdoors. I asked him why the outdoors affect him so much. He said when you look in scripture, you see verse after verse about how much God loves creation—how God pays attention to every small detail. He told me how scripture talks about creation in ways that speak of its impermanence.
I was like, “Oh cool.”
Then he followed it up by saying that what these scriptures say to him is this—if God puts so much effort and love into these little things like grass, or birds—if God loves those seemingly insignificant things, how much more does he love us?
“It puts me in my place—in a good way. It reminds me of how much God loves me.”
“Amen,” I said.
