FIELD NOTES
In this passage of Romans, Paul is encouraging the believers not to cause one another to stumble. Paul reminds us that our actions have an impact on our neighbors. What I do can be a hindrance to faith for someone else. So I need to pay attention to the impact of my actions on others. I recently had the opportunity to hear Bob Goff speak, and a question he posed to us was, “How is your life working for the people around you?” Not how is my life working for me, but how is my life working for my family, my friends, my neighbors, and my community?
Instead of pursuing paths that are for my best interest only, what am I doing that will build others up rather than tear them down or cause them to stumble? This question is one way to begin living purposefully and one way to put others before myself.
