Walking Through Fires
January 13, 2018
DAILY READING
This weekend’s reading: Daniel 2:1-16
FIELD NOTES
The king saw Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace. Then he noticed a fourth person with them who appeared to be like a god. The king then told them to come out of the furnace. The three were not hurt.
A few years ago, a men’s group adapted Psalm 43:1-3, making it personal to each by inserting their names into the appropriate places. Insert your own name in the blanks:
But now thus says the LORD, who created ________, who formed _______. Do not fear, for I have redeemed _________. I have called _________ by name, ________ is mine. When ________ passes through the waters, I will be with _______, and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm ________; when __________ walks through fire ________ shall not be burned, and the flames shall not consume ________. For I am the LORD _________’s God, the Holy One of Israel, __________’s Savior.
While God may not cause the fires in our lives, God is with us through the fires.
QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD
- When has God helped you through some fires of your life?
- Is there a fire through which you are walking now?
- Are you letting Jesus get you through it?
FAMILY FIELD TALK
- What are some struggles that your family endured with the help of Jesus?
- Does your family have any particular struggles right now with which Jesus can help?
PRAYER GUIDE
Lord, because you calmed the storm, fed 5000 people, walked on water, healed people, and raised them from the dead, I know you can help me when I go through fiery furnaces of life. You’ve helped me before. I know you can help me again. Help me trust you the same as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. In your gracious name I pray. Amen.
