The Power of Gratitude

FIELD NOTES

One Christmas, I had been exceptionally greedy. I remember having multiple video games on my wish-list, as well as other assorted toys and items. One thing that was NOT on my list though, was a set of rollerblades. Christmas morning came and while I didn’t get everything I had asked for, I got more than my fair share. My cousin got a set of rollerblades. And she was in love with them. She immediately went out into my grandmother’s driveway and started skating. And I was green with envy. I remember going home and throwing a huge fit to my parents about not getting rollerblades. I was really nasty. I look back on this time and I’m ashamed. I was so ungrateful, it was disgusting. My parents weren’t wealthy and to get me more than one video game was asking a lot, but to throw a fit about a gift I didn’t even want until I saw my cousin get it was out of control.
