BUMC Foundation Higher Education Scholarships
There are two higher education scholarship opportunities that are administered through the BUMC Foundation.
The Brentwood United Methodist Church Scholarship supports education and established this scholarship program to achieve several desirable objectives. This program provides deserving high school and college students with financial aid for higher education. It is designed to encourage students to demonstrate our love and to provide an ongoing spirit of giving to our church family.
The Powell Family Foundation Scholarship has a strong interest in supporting education and has established this scholarship program to provide scholarship funds to students participating in activities of Brentwood United Methodist Church. This program provides deserving students with financial aid for higher education.
Applications are accepted from March 1 through April 15.
Two types of students are eligible to apply for the awards. They are participants in the life of Brentwood United Methodist Church who are high school seniors or college seniors who are planning a career in a “caring or helping” profession (example: medical, education, or biblical studies).
Each year Brentwood United Methodist Church through the Foundation will award multiple $2,000 renewable Brentwood United Methodist Church Scholarships and one $6,000 renewable Powell Family Foundation Scholarship. One of the Brentwood United Methodist Church scholarships can be awarded to a college senior who plans on graduate work in a helping profession. The scholarships will be applied to tuition, fees, books, and supplies required for course load at an accredited, nonprofit college or university in the United States.
A Selection Committee appointed by the Foundation Board will evaluate the applications and select the winners. The selection of winners will be based on a combination of the applicants' academic records, standardized test results, extracurricular activities, involvement at BUMC and recommendations. In evaluating applications, the committee will place special emphasis on the depth and breadth of an applicant's involvement in church and service activities, and the leadership demonstrated in those activities. Winners will be notified by June 1.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF RECIPIENTS
Responsibilities of the recipient include enrolling as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in the fall of the year in which the scholarship is award and continuing in school for the entire academic year without interruption, barring illness, emergency, or military service.
