The Measure of Love

October 27, 2017

DAILY READING

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

This week’s sermon text: Romans 13:1-7

FIELD NOTES

Sometimes when we use words and phrases like “love like Jesus” or “motivated by love,” it is difficult to tangibly understand what we mean. What does “love like Jesus” look like in the reality of the refugee crisis in Myanmar in 2017? What does it mean to love like Jesus when we see a family standing in the Chick-fil-A parking lot begging for money? What does “love like Jesus” look like when our kids just won’t do what we tell them to do? 1 Corinthians 13 tries to answer these questions. It tries to set up a measure for what living like Christ, motivated by His love looks like in our day-to-day lives. Love looks like patience, kindness, humility, not judging, rejoicing in what is good and it is endless.

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  • How would you measure love? Try re-writing 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 in your own words.
  • How would you explain love to a non-Christian?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  • How would you explain true love to a friend?

God, teach me what it means to live out Christ’s love in every moment of our every day. Teach me what I should say and what I should do to show Your love to those around me and let me always rest assured in Your grace when I fall short. Amen.
