Beautiful Feet

March 25, 2019

DAILY READING

Isaiah 52:7-12
This weekend’s reading: Mark 15:33-41

FIELD NOTES

I doubt many of us ever think of our feet as beautiful. Feet are often calloused or tired or sore or even stinky. But usually not thought to be beautiful.

Even so, the prophet declares that worn and weary feet can be made beautiful by the work that they carry us to do.

“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”

Take a minute today to take off your shoes and look at your feet. Think of all the places you’ve been. All the places they have taken you. All the miles you have walked and all the roads you have traveled. And think also of the places yet to go. People to meet, places to visit, and good news to share.

No matter where your feet take you today, be filled with joy that they are beautiful. So carry the good news of Jesus Christ’s love with you today and remember that your God reigns.

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  • What normally comes to mind when you think about feet?
  • Where could your feet carry you today that might allow you to extend a sign of peace or an expression of God’s love?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  • What is the most tired your feet have ever been?
  • Where could we walk together to share peace and good news with a friend or neighbor?

PRAYER GUIDE

God, we give you thanks for our feet. For our feet that allow us to walk in our neighborhood, and dance with joy, and stand up in the face of injustice. We give you thanks for these feet that lead us to places where we can announce peace, and bring good news, and proclaim salvation. Give us the courage to be led to places and people where our beautiful feet can serve. Amen.
