Sacrificial Leadership

April 10, 2019

DAILY READING

Psalm 20
This weekend’s reading: Luke 23:32-43

FIELD NOTES

Psalm 20:3 says, “May [God] remember all your offerings, and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices.” The psalmist is praying that God will look kindly upon the King because he has shown loyalty to God through his religious observances.

Though we don’t offer sacrifices to God in the same way as the ancient Israelites, Christian leaders are still called to make sacrifices for the work of the Kingdom of God. We must sometimes sacrifice our own desires in favor of what’s best for the community. We must sacrifice our time to help others rather than focusing solely on ourselves. We must sometimes sacrifice being right for being kind. Whatever we are sacrificing, let us remember that we are giving it to God. Remember our time, resources, gifts, and blessings are not our own, but all belong to God. When we make sacrifices for our faith, we may find ourselves richly blessed by the results.

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  • What have you sacrificed to lead a Christian life?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  • What does “sacrifice” mean? How can we practice “sacrifice” as a family?

PRAYER GUIDE

Holy Spirit, fill us with your presence. Equip us to be sacrificial leaders. Help us to let go of the things that keep us from serving you. In the words of the psalmist, “remember our offerings, and regard with favor our sacrifices.” We do it for you, God. Amen.
