Traveling Light

October 17, 2019

DAILY READINGS

Luke 10:1-4
This weekend’s scripture: Luke 10:1-12

FIELD NOTES

Max Lucado wrote an inspirational book, Traveling Light.  He confessed, as do I, that when packing to take a trip, he does not travel light. He takes extra clothes, extra games, extra whatever “just in case.”

Jesus instructed his disciples to not take anything with them as they went on their mission.  Why?  He wanted the disciples to depend totally upon him.  He wanted the disciples to trust the Lord with all their hearts and lean not on their individual wisdom (Proverbs 3:5-6).

QUESTION FOR THE FIELD

  1. When traveling, do you pack a lot of extra stuff, just in case?
  2. As you prepare for today, in what ways are you dependent upon Christ?  Yourself?
  3. As you prepare for today, what emotional or spiritual baggage might you leave behind?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  1. What baggage is appropriate for a vacation? Why?
  2. What are some things we may want to take on vacation that we do not need? Why?
  3. What is emotional baggage? How can we leave that behind?
How might our family completely trust in Jesus?

PRAYER GUIDE

Most loving, gracious, Lord, help me to let go of my self-reliance, skills, and techniques and to depend upon you completely.
