FIELD NOTES

From exile to home is another of the great spiritual movements.

Exile is marked by hunger, persecution, poverty, and mourning.  Coming home is marked by feasting, acceptance, restoration, and joy.

In today’s passage (Jeremiah 30:18-22) we see God promise the gifts of coming home: restoration of fortunes, the city rebuilt, thanksgiving and merrymakers, children who grow old, a ruler who is one of their own, and the ultimate gift: “And you shall be my people and I will be your God.”  To God be the glory!

QUESTIONS FROM THE FIELD

  • Today there are 19.5 million people living in exile (this is a doubling from just 10 years ago).
  • What could/should Christians do in to join God in helping these exiles return home?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  • What’s your favorite part of a party?
  • What kind of party do you think God would throw?

PRAYER GUIDE

God, you desire to bring exiles back home, so may I be an instrument of homecoming. Help me to sow feasting and acceptance and restoration and joy.  Amen.
