From Shame to Fruitfulness

November 27, 2019

DAILY READINGS

Psalm 117
Jeremiah 31:1-6
Luke 1:1-4
This weekend’s scripture: Matthew 24:36-44

FIELD NOTES

The third great spiritual movement is from shame (or guilt or fear or barrenness or …) to fruitfulness (and rest and grace and love and security and …).

In chapter 30 we heard Jeremiah proclaim the good news of freedom to the enslaved and homecoming to the exile.  Now in chapter 31, he’s proclaiming the good news of God’s grace and everlasting love and faithfulness.

And these gifts will appear as being built back up and dancing and enjoying the fruit of your planting and worshipping God.  For when we truly experience and taste and see the goodness of God, we can’t help but express it.

QUESTIONS FROM THE FIELD

  • When’s the last time you’ve been moved to joyful expression by the goodness of God?
  • What would it take for you to throw a party simply because you have found grace in the wilderness?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  • What are the ways we could celebrate as a family when one of us experiences the goodness of God?

PRAYER GUIDE

God, you offer grace in the wilderness, so fill my heart with a joy that leads me to dancing and singing today. Amen.
