FIELD NOTES
Being a dad is constantly pushing against my introverted tendencies. My wife and I, who are major introverts, find ourselves overwhelmed by this little boy, as he is the biggest extrovert I have ever seen. He LOVES being around people. The more people around, the happier he is. It’s teaching us to get out of our comfort zone.
It also begs of me the question: how do I raise a child so different from myself? When the world I grew up in is so different from the world in which he will grow, how do I make decisions regarding discipline? How do I help him adapt to a world which might not accept him?
With these questions, all I can do is look to Christ, and hope that I can emulate his love and gentle spirit. The Kingdom of God is not one of talk, but of power. Power comes from action, and that action must follow suit to Christ. If I am to have any hope as a father, I must place my hope and actions in the power of Christ. It’s the only shot my son and I, and all of us, have at living a life worthy of Christ.

Lord, may our words not be merely words. May they be backed up by action. May our lives reflect yours. Amen and amen.
