FIELD NOTES

Being a parent is one of the most rewarding experiences in life, is it not?  And also exhausting.  And also hilarious.  And also infuriating.  Our children bring out every emotion in us.  They make us proud.  They make us angry.  They make us want to move to an island and hide forever.

And yet there is something about them that is so special.  I think it is their sense of wonder.  They are truly awed by the smallest things.  I remember my son being captivated by a book of bugs.  Every page, he would shout, “Daddy! LOOK!”  He couldn’t get enough.
I hope I am like that with God, but I know most often I am not.  And that breaks my heart.  I want that awe all the time.  I want to be like that little kid, so captivated that I can’t help but say to anyone who will listen, “Hey! LOOK!”

QUESTIONS FROM THE FIELD

  • What ways to do you see the awe in the children in your life?  What ways do you experience awe in your own life?

PRAYER GUIDE

God, may we be as awestruck by you as a child is by a bug or a dinosaur, or simply just their mom’s smile.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
