Pure Spiritual Milk

April 28, 2020

DAILY READING

1 Peter 2:1-3

FIELD NOTES

Looking at today’s scripture, I see these things we are supposed to rid ourselves of—Hate, malice, deceit, hypocrisy—it sounds like all of the things that are OPPOSITE of love.

So what is that “pure spiritual milk,” but the Love of God.

The first fruit of the Spirit is Love.  God is love.  The first commandment is to love the Lord and the second is to love our neighbor.

To drink from that pure spiritual milk is to drink and share in the love of God.

Go and do so.

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  • How do we drink of the Love of God?  How do we share that drink with those around us?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  • What is the opposite of God’s love?

PRAYER GUIDE

God, lead us to that pure spiritual milk.  Take away the evil in our hearts and fill them with your love.  Amen.

FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT CHALLENGE

Over the next nine weeks, we are offering daily prompts for applying the wisdom from the scriptures to our everyday lives. Each week focuses on how we can encourage those around us and bear fruit! This week we are focusing on the fruit of love.

My work is loving the world.
Let me keep my mind on what matters,
which is my work,
which is mostly standing still and learning to be
astonished.
(Excerpt from Mary Oliver’s “Messenger”)
