Submission as Love

May 1, 2020

DAILY READING

1 Peter 2:13-17

FIELD NOTES

This passage has been debated countless times, with good reason probably.  One truth that shines through regardless of how people twist it to control others—there is love in submission.

When we put the needs of others above our own, that is a form of submission.  That is love.  That is Christ.

These acts of submission can be big or small, but they are all acts of love.

There is no greater love than this, that one lays down their lives for their friends.

Amen.

FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT CHALLENGE

Over the next nine weeks, we are offering daily prompts for applying the wisdom from the scriptures to our everyday lives. Each week focuses on how we can encourage those around us and bear fruit! This week we are focusing on the fruit of love.

“Tears… are not a mark of weakness, but of power. They are messengers of overwhelming grief and of unspeakable love.”

-Washington Irving
