FIELD NOTES
Today’s passage from Proverbs is well-known and well-loved by many. It emphasizes that God sees the big picture of our lives. He knows the gifts he’s given us; he created our personalities and temperaments; he understands us better than we understand ourselves. So when we trust him first and foremost, we can trust that his loving hand will guide us in our decisions and choices.
It’s like seeing for the first time photos of your neighborhood taken by satellite. Suddenly your perspective shifts and you can see how roads and rivers and fields all relate to one another. What’s hidden from view when you’re on the ground, suddenly becomes visible from thousands of feet above the earth.
God has that perspective of our lives, too. And that’s a good thing when we depend upon his guidance.
QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD
- Can you think of a time when you were so enmeshed in the details of a situation that you couldn’t see the big picture
- What helped you gain a larger perspective?
- What situation do you need to commit to God’s “big picture” vision and guidance?
FAMILY FIELD TALK
- Ask a family member to show you your neighborhood on Google Maps. Zoom in and out and see how different things look as your view gets farther away or closer. Think about how God can see your life from a different view and how when we ask for his help, he can guide us in the best ways.
PRAYER GUIDE
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you that you know us completely and that you will guide us if we allow you to. Help us to trust you more each day. Amen.
