Asleep?

DAILY READING

Mark 4:35-41

FIELD NOTES

The storm rages on, and the disciples go to get Jesus so that he can help them.  And what is Jesus doing?  He’s asleep?  What?

When I was young, my mother suffered a brain aneurysm.  I remember one day walking down the stairs of our house because I had heard someone crying.  I got to the living room to find my dad crying with our pastor.  He was scared.  For whatever reason, I wasn’t.  I knew in my heart that my mom would be fine.  And she was.  Sometimes, life just hits us differently than it hits others.  For Jesus, he knew they would be fine.  The disciples were scared.  Now, I didn’t have supernatural knowledge that my mom would be ok, but I had a peace about it.  While my dad worried, I probably could have slept soundly.

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  • What storms have you found yourself in where you were scared like the disciples?
  • Where were you like Jesus, calm and asleep?

PRAYER GUIDE

Lord, we know you’re in control no matter what.  Help us always remember that.  Amen.
