DAILY READING

John 11:1-26

FIELD NOTES

I never knew my paternal grandfather. He passed before I was born. But I’ve heard stories. I’ve heard story after story about him. About his laugh. About his love for his children. About how he was head over heels for my grandmother.  What I’ve heard most about him are the stories from people who knew him and knew him to be kind. People from his tiny rural community would tell me there would be a month when they couldn’t pay their rent and he would pay it for them.  I heard stories of groceries showing up on neighbors’ doorsteps. Of new clothes for school delivered to families. Though I’ve never met him, when I think of the saints, when I think of Christ, I think of him.
