FIELD NOTES

My grandmother on my mother’s side never missed an opportunity to show my brother and I love. Her love was expressed in gifts and in food. She cooked family lunch every Sunday. Being a picky eater, there wasn’t a lot of foods that I would eat.  To my parents’ chagrin, my grandmother always had something on the table that I would eat. She always made me something special. Was she enabling me? Maybe. But she also loved me, and to her, putting food on the table that I enjoyed was her way of loving me. When I think of the saints, when I think of Christ, I think of her.
