The Power to Heal an Outsider

DAILY READING

Mark 7:24-30

FIELD NOTES

When I was a kid, I was scared of everything.  I mean, everything.  Growing up, our school band and chorus would always take an annual trip to Six Flags.  Everyone loved Six Flags, except me.  As a scared kid, I hated Six Flags because I didn’t ride rollercoasters.  My friends all loved them, so while they were having fun, I would be sitting at each ride exit, waiting for my friends, sometimes for hours, by myself.  I felt like an outsider.  My friends had these shared experiences of riding rollercoasters together while I was left out (self-inflicted).

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  • When have you been an outsider?
  • What choices have you made in your life that caused you to be an outsider?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  • How does it feel to be left out?

PRAYER GUIDE

Lord, help us have empathy for those on the outside of what we consider the norm, for they are also your children.  Amen.
