Authority

DAILY READING

Judges 2:16-23

FIELD NOTES

My wife loves to buck authority.  One time, when we were still dating, we were walking through a neighborhood with quite a few homes under construction.  As you can imagine, there were “No Trespassing!” signs everywhere.  Did that stop her from walking right into those homes?  Nope.  As an avid rule follower, did I freak out? Yep.  While my wife had no ill intent in her blatant disregard of the sign’s authority, sometimes, when we see authority, we do have contempt.  Sometimes, we make it our goal to take that authority on, head first.

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  • Are you a rule follower, or do you enjoy challenging authority?
  • If you enjoy challenging authority, what might it look like to submit to authority in your life?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  • What is the point of rules?

PRAYER GUIDE

Lord, may we submit to your will, always.  Amen.
