The Lord Will Fight for You

DAILY READING

Exodus 14:1-18

FIELD NOTES

The Israelites are free.  They are on their journey away from Egypt.  And Pharaoh changes his mind.  He has lost his workforce.  He must get them back.  So he readies his army to go after them.

The Israelites see Pharaoh approaching and grow very fearful.  Moses encourages them not to be afraid, for God will deliver them.

My dear friend Cheryl who was a teacher and helped lead our youth group when I was in high school, passed away last year.  She had been sick for some time.  As she was sick, she grasped onto verse 14: The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.

Everyone who knew her prayed that verse over and over again, pleading with God to heal our friend.

And she passed away still.  And it created a wound that still hurts a year later.

But her fight is over.  The Lord relieved her pain and brought her home.  Sometimes the battle doesn’t go the way we think it should, or the way we want it to go.  And yet, the Lord still fights for us.  And the victory is still God’s.
