Created in God’s Image

DAILY READING

Psalm 146

FIELD NOTES

We know that we have been created in God’s image, but what does this mean? Psalm 146 provides a powerful description of who God is:

He is the Maker of heaven and earth,
the sea, and everything in them—
    he remains faithful forever.
He upholds the cause of the oppressed
and gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets prisoners free,
the Lord gives sight to the blind,
the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,
    the Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the foreigner
and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.

We know that we can never measure up to the goodness of God, but we are called to try. The concept of holiness calls us to both love God and love others as God loves them. So even when we come up short, we are called to keep striving to love others as God loves us.
