Giving

DAILY READING

Luke 13:31-35

What would you do if you knew exactly how many days you had left in your life? In this text, Jesus knows he only has a few days left before his crucifixion, and he is entirely focused on giving generously to his flock while he can. Even as the Pharisees warn him of Herod, Jesus says to them, “Go and tell that fox for me, ‘Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work.’” Jesus doesn’t let anything get in the way of his mission and the extraordinary gifts he has to give. As we reflect on this passage, it also becomes a model for us as followers of Christ. Though it is unlikely you know exactly how much time you have left, we all know that our passing from this life is inevitable. So, it begs the question: what would you do? For me, it means living each day with as much generosity as I can – generosity with my gifts, my time, and with my attitude toward others.

ACTION FOR THE DAY

What’s one way you can give generously today? Maybe a neighbor needs help getting groceries, or you leave an extra tip for your barista or server, or you come across an organization or cause that could use your support. Think of one way you can be generous with your giving.
